A lot of people’s struggles often boil down to them confusing their needs vs their wants. Putting a majority of their time and energy into getting their wants while neglecting their needs. This is a recipe for disaster, unhappiness, and feeling unfulfilled. Let’s take a look at needs vs wants and gain some clarity on how to refocus our attention to things that provide a lasting positive investment for our lives.

Self-Reflection Question

Where in my life am I mistaking wants for needs, and how is that choice keeping me stuck or distracted from real growth?

This question forces you to confront the illusions you’ve created around what you believe you “need.” GI Griffin challenges you to strip away the emotional comfort of wants disguised as essentials—whether it’s constant validation, attention, luxury, or convenience. When you get honest about the difference, you reclaim power over your priorities, decisions, and focus.

Self-Improvement Challenge

This week, audit your habits. Identify 3 things you say you “need” that are actually wants. Cut one out completely for the next 7 days.

The challenge is about detoxing your mindset from entitlement and false dependencies. By intentionally removing one self-labeled “need,” you build clarity, discipline, and resilience. This is how you separate what sustains your growth from what’s just feeding your ego or escape mechanisms.
